Hi Ed, thanks for the kind words. Yes it's an old Scottish tune, it sounded familiar to us but we had to look up the name. This one is in the key of D. We try to swap the keys around a wee bit for variety, but D is nice and easy for Mandolins/Banjo. Best wishes

A real blast from the past..... I watched this back in 1987 when it was first released. Managed to see them in concert in 1988 before Roy's untimely death.... The Corries' music has been a part of me all my life, 52 year old, "exiled" in Wales and still on my playlist as I run to work. Music for the ages indeed.. Thank you for posting! Rob

Greetings Damian & Jim (I have to ask ... who play's which instrument?) Love the tune! I only know one Neil Gow tune ("Farewell To Whisky") but this one is quite catchy! Is it N.G. Senior or Junior who composed it?, and thanks for the lyrics too! Hope this finds you both well! Kind Regards, Ed.

Hello Ed, thanks for the kind words! Good to hear from you, how are you? I think this is a Neil Gow Senior tune, he marched with the Jacobites in 1745 for a short time I believe. On this one Jim is playing guitar! Kind Regards.

I mind watchinv them on the tv as a child. Going to town and village halls all over Scotland. Proper ceilidhs. I have albums too. I also have the privilege of telling my guests on tours I take that The Corries first sang Flower of Scotland in the Waverly Bar just off Edinburghs Royal Mile. I do this every working day. It is important to me to remember them and certain guests just swell with the memory of The Corries too. Pure feel good merchants

This style just sounds so blooming pompous, from the whistling to the stilted, almost pronounced way of declaiming the lines as opposed to someone just bloody singing them. It's a fantastic song spoiled by self-important delivery. I know people worship at the shrine of the Corries but it was a different age, we've got beyond that and the way songs are presented more naturally now (even in the 80s, see Dick Gaughan or others) just does more credit to the material.
